Tampa General Hospital’s Women’s Institute provides a full range of women’s health services, from routine obstetrics and gynecology to more complex maternal-fetal medicine and neonatal care. As an academic health system and nationally recognized leader in high-risk obstetrics, TGH offers access to the highest level of women’s and infant care in virtually every medical subspecialty, as well as psychology, genetic counseling, pediatrics and more. Tampa General delivered more than 7,000 babies in 2022, the most in our history.

In recognition of the excellent level of care we provide, Tampa General Hospital is ranked top 10 in the Nation and Highest Ranked in Florida for Obstetrics & Gynecology. by U.S. News & World Report for 2024-25. TGH has also been named on Newsweek’s list of Best Maternity Hospitals 2024. Additionally, we were the only hospital in Hillsborough County to receive international recognition as a Baby-Friendly® designated birth facility.

Advanced Health Care for Women

At TGH’s Women’s Institute, we are passionate about providing patients with individualized, world-class care. This includes offering patients the best possible outcomes for their conditions with a focus on maintaining patient comfort. As a result, our women’s health doctors, nurses and specialists perform a variety of diagnostic and treatment procedures to address women’s health conditions, such as infertility, breast cancer, vaginal prolapse, pelvic floor dysfunction, uterine fibroids and others.

In addition, many of our procedures are minimally invasive and use state-of-the-art robotics to offer patients a treatment option with less pain and quicker recovery times compared to traditional procedures.

World-Class Obstetrics & Maternal-Fetal Medicine

The Obstetrics Center at the Tampa General Hospital Women's Institute provides state-of-the-art, individualized care for women before, during and after childbirth. We believe women’s health deserves special attention during pregnancy and every childbearing experience is unique. As such, we support all birth options and delivered more than 7,000 babies in 2022. To ensure new mothers and their babies are comfortable during their stay, our Labor and Delivery Unit features hotel-like suites with soft colors, wood-like floors, wood cabinets for medical equipment and storage, televisions with media players and private bathrooms and showers.

Likewise, our Maternal Fetal Medicine Program and Fetal Care Center provide the highest level of care in the region for both mother and child who have an increased risk for health problems throughout pregnancy and beyond. Thanks to our academic partnership with USF Health and our team of expert geneticists, pediatricians and others, we are well-equipped to care for all types of high-risk pregnancies and births caused by illness or abnormalities. Tampa General Hospital's Heart & Vascular Institute houses a Cardio-Obstetrics Program that provides world-class multidisciplinary care to protect women’s heart health before, during and after pregnancy.
