John Couris, TGH President & CEO, will kick off the inaugural Innovation Week in-person at Valdes Auditorium with a powerful topic: embracing failure. His keynote will offer a more intimate and personal take on his failure framework for innovation. Using failure resumes of well-known figures, John will share his own experiences with failure and create a supportive environment for audience members to step on stage and share their stories. Spoiler alert: those brave enough to show their vulnerability will be rewarded with epic prizes, generously donated by our sponsors and TGH partners.

Dr. Tom Sequist, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer, and former Patient Experience and Equity Officer at Mass General Brigham, will join Tampa General Hospital Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Peggy Dugan for a Virtual Fireside Chat on the challenges and opportunities of creating a more equitable healthcare system for all.
This dynamic discussion will explore actionable strategies and initiatives that promote fairness and inclusivity in patient care, how leaders can foster a culture of equity, and how technology improves access to patient-centered care.
A prominent advocate for health equity and a leading voice in healthcare innovation, Dr. Sequist has spent his career focused on addressing systemic health disparities and promoting inclusivity. During his tenure at Mass General Brigham, Dr. Sequist has led efforts to enhance patient experiences and promote health equity. He is committed to educating healthcare professionals on cultural competence and leveraging technology to improve healthcare access for underserved populations.
Dr. Sequist is a member of the Taos Pueblo Native American community and a graduate of Harvard University Medical School and T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He brings experience, knowledge, and expertise in tackling healthcare disparities using evidence-based strategies to drive systemic changes, ensuring that all patients receive care tailored to their unique needs.
Dr. Peggy Duggan is the executive vice president and chief medical officer of Tampa General Hospital. Prior to joining TGH, Dr. Duggan was a breast surgeon and medical director of the breast center at Mass General Brigham Health System and ultimately became the chief medical officer for the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. A board-certified physician, Dr. Duggan earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed leadership programs at Harvard Business School and the Association of American Medical Colleges CMO Leadership Academy.
