Liver Transplant Program
Tampa General Hospital's Transplant Institute is ranked in the top 5 in the nation by volume and number one in Florida. Our Liver Transplant Program began in 1987 and is now one of the busiest liver transplant centers in the country. Tampa General Hospital has performed over 2,300 liver transplants and broke our record in 2023. Our high patient volumes reflect the uncommon and challenging hepatic diseases we treat compared to other hospitals. This has contributed to our renowned expertise and excellent outcomes for patients. In addition, our time to transplant is historically shorter than national averages, according to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) data.
Living Donor Liver Transplant Program
Tampa General is proud to offer a Living Donor Liver Transplant Program. This program offers decreased time waiting and better outcomes to the more than 18,000 people on a waiting list to receive a liver. For more information about this program, call (813) 844-5669 or 1-800-505-7769.
Liver Cancer Program
Our Liver Cancer Program treats some of the most high-risk patients with liver tumors. Our hepatology and oncology experts tailor medical management therapies specific to each patient. In some cases, liver resections are performed to remove cancerous segments of the liver, in hopes a full liver transplant can be avoided.
Liver Transplant Process
At the Comprehensive Liver Disease & Transplant Center, patient education is a priority. With our guidance, patients and their families review and understand the complex liver transplant process.
