Undergoing treatment at Tampa General Hospital’s Orthopaedic Institute means you will work with a team of skilled physicians, board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons who have undergone year-long, in-depth training in the orthopaedic specialty, and knowledgeable supportive medical care professionals. Because we perform more than 4,000 inpatient orthopaedic surgical procedures annually – which is more than any other facility within West Central Florida – TGH is at the forefront of orthopaedic surgery. Our practitioners have accumulated a high level of expertise in treating conditions, such as:
- Age-related degenerative conditions
- Sprains and strains
- Scoliosis
- Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
- Severed or broken limbs (arms and legs) or digits (fingers and toes)
- Motor vehicle injuries, and other injuries of traumatic onset
Common Conditions Treated with Sports Medicine
Our sports medicine experts focus on a variety of different conditions that can occur during sports – whether you’re a child or adult – including:
- ACL tears
- Ankle sprains
- Joint dislocations
- Tendon and ligament injuries
- Muscle strains
- Stress fractures
- Growth plate injuries
- Cartilage injuries
- Foot stress reactions
One of the things that sets us apart is our comprehensive care for young athletes with growth plate injuries, which require timely diagnosis and treatment by a pediatric sports medicine expert. A growth plate is the area of growing tissue near the end of a long bone. If it is injured, it needs to be addressed promptly and appropriately so the affected bone can continue to grow normally.
At Tampa General Hospital’s Children’s Hospital, children of all ages can receive sports medicine care they deserve. Our team, which includes surgeons, nurse practitioners, child life specialists, pharmacists, therapists, care coordinators, and other health professionals, uses an integrated approach that takes into account a child’s mental and emotional needs while also providing high-quality medical treatment. Our affiliation with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine also allows us to rely on a talented staff of pediatric physicians that is dedicated to providing the best care possible.
