Iconic deli and bakery to open first satellite location

TAMPA, FL (March 12, 2025)Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is thrilled to announce that Wright's Gourmet House, a beloved Tampa institution, has chosen the first-floor East Pavilion entrance of the academic health system’s Davis Islands hospital for its first-ever satellite location. Wright’s, known for its mouthwatering sandwiches, decadent cakes and other heartwarming desserts, signed a 10-year lease for the 2,900-square-foot space, formerly home to McDonald’s.

“We are committed to providing world-class care, and the addition of Wright’s to our Davis Islands campus is a welcome enhancement to not only the patient experience, but also that of the families we serve, our doctors, nurses and team members,” said Tampa General Vice President of Operations Donna Tope. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Wright’s here on our campus.”

The Wright’s location at Tampa General will be open daily, with a full-service kitchen offering a selection of Wright’s favorite menu options for in-person, call-ahead and online orders. The space will feature a dine-in area, as well as a separate to-go pickup window.

While a construction timeline for the new space is currently being finalized, hospital patients, visitors and team members won’t need to wait until the new location opens to enjoy Wright’s famous baked goods. A selection of cake slices, cupcakes, cookies and other items will be available for purchase in the Tampa General Davis Islands hospital café in the coming weeks.

Located at 1200 S. Dale Mabry Highway in South Tampa, Wright’s has been a fixture of Tampa’s restaurant scene for more than 60 years, serving generations of loyal patrons with its signature sandwiches and cakes, timeless charm and warm hospitality. Founded by Marjorie and Pete Wright in 1963 and later run by Marjorie’s grandson Jeff Mount, it has remained a cornerstone of celebrations and traditions, fostering lasting relationships with those who walk through its doors. Now, it can help provide a moment of comfort and joy to patients and visitors alike amidst some of the most trying circumstances.

“Wright’s move to Tampa General is a homecoming of sorts for our founder, Marjorie Wright,” said Rudy Garcia, president of Caspers Company, the parent company of Wright’s. “She was the Director of Admissions here at the hospital for many years before founding Wright’s. Her focus was on creating an exceptional patient experience, and she brought that same passion and dedication to Wright’s with a commitment to quality, service and community values that still endures today. We’re excited to share her legacy with Tampa General.”
