TAMPA, Fla. (Nov. 9, 2023) – Tampa General Hospital (TGH) announced today that it has been selected by TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, to receive a 2023 TD Tree Days grant. TD Tree Days is a community-based program, created in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, that expands urban forests and green spaces in primarily low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.
The grant allowed TGH staff and volunteers with TD Bank to plant 15 magnolia and live oak trees and 150 shrubs at the Community Garden and Food Pantry at TGH Healthpark, located at 5802 N 30th St., on Nov. 8. The initiative supports TampaWell, TGH’s multi-year partnership with the City of Tampa to make Tampa the ultimate wellness destination in the United States.
“Our mission at Tampa General is to empower communities and transform lives and TampaWell is the embodiment of this mission,” said Rachel Bozich, ambulatory project manager at Tampa General Hospital. “The new TD Tree Days grant enables us to improve green spaces in East Tampa and offer a respite to our community members and team members as we work together to create a healthier Tampa for all.”
“TD Bank is dedicated to helping our communities thrive in part by working with organizations like Tampa General to enhance and activate healthy green spaces for everyone. We are thrilled to announce the return of in-person volunteering opportunities with TD Tree Days in Tampa and are grateful for our volunteers and colleagues who are taking part in helping build a more vibrant and sustainable tomorrow,” said Paige Carlson-Heim, director of the Office of Charitable and Community Giving at TD Bank.
TD Tree Days, the bank's flagship volunteer and urban greening program, has brought together thousands of volunteers from Maine to Florida and has been a major contributor to the TD Ready Commitment's goal of planting 1 million trees across North America by 2030.
To date, thousands of volunteers have supported numerous environmental initiatives, helping TD plant more than 491,000 trees and shrubs across its U.S. footprint. This year, TGH is one of 18 organizations and municipalities in the United States awarded a TD Tree Days grant.
In addition to Tampa, TD Tree Days events are scheduled in these communities this award cycle: Hartford, CT; Wilmington, DE; Boynton Beach, FL; Jacksonville, FL; Auburn, Maine; Portland, Maine; Mattapan, MA; Detroit, MI; Asheville, NC; Charlotte, NC; Bridgeton, NJ; Sicklerville, NJ; West Orange, NJ; Bronx, NY; Pleasantville, NY; and Greenville, SC.
