Level I Trauma Centers like TGH's Wallace Trauma Center are equipped to care for the most critically ill and injured adult and pediatric patients with dedicated resources available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Onsite team members and resources include trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons and other surgical specialists, non-surgical specialists, medical personnel, equipment and facilities.

Tampa General Hospital transports critically ill or injured patients from 23 surrounding counties aboard our six aeromedical helicopters* that are equipped with the most advanced life support equipment. Our helicopters are based in Hillsborough, Highlands, Polk and Charlotte Counties. Tampa General Hospital has earned recognition from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). 

Chondrosarcoma is an uncommon type of bone tumor that forms in cartilage, the smooth connective tissue that protects the ends of bones. Most often, the cancer originates in the hip, pelvis or shoulder, although it can also occur in the knee, skull, spine, windpipe (trachea) or ribs.

GH Aeromed crew members receive continuous training and education. Team members consist of a flight nurse, paramedic, communications specialist and emergency medical services pilot.

Pediatrics

The TGH Transfer Center is staffed 24 hours a day. To transfer a patient from another facility, call 1-800-247-4472. The sending facility will be asked to provide the following information: patient name, address, social security number, home phone, date of birth, diagnosis, name of referring facility, name of physician and reason for transfer.
